Greene County Prosecutor says shooting of Dustin Abel was act of justified self-defense

Dustin Fredrick Abel was shot and killed near Owensburg at approximately 10:37 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30. Later that day, law enforcement confirmed they were investigating a death but Dustin Abel was not identified as the deceased victim until the next day, on Wednesday, May 1. An investigation into the circumstances of the shooting has been ongoing.

Today, Friday, June 28, Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw released details of the shooting, the investigation and the findings. He said based upon the investigation, no criminal charges will be filed against the woman who shot Abel. Holtsclaw said the investigation revealed she was acting in self-defense when she shot Abel one time with a shotgun as he attempted to enter her home.

Woman arrested for the third time in two months

One woman’s arrest over the weekend was her third time to be arrested in Greene County in less than two months’ time. In the three criminal cases now pending against her, she’s accused of disorderly conduct, domestic battery, invasion of privacy and false informing.
