UPDATED: Rural Bloomfield man accused of making threats while armed with a knife
/An incident in eastern Greene County last Tuesday afternoon led to the arrest of a rural Bloomfield man who allegedly made physical threats while armed with a knife. He’s also facing charges of felony domestic battery in another case involving an altercation in Linton and in a third case, he was arrested last December, accused of shooting his own son with a BB gun.
Jason Tyrel Haywood, 36, of Bloomfield, was arrested by Det. James O’Malley of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday afternoon, June 25. Haywood was booked in to the Greene County Jail around 5:30 p.m.
Late last Thursday, two criminal cases were filed against Haywood.
In one, following Det. O’Malley’s investigation into the Tuesday incident, Haywood is facing a preliminary charge of intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony.
In the other, Haywood is facing a preliminary charge of domestic battery with a prior conviction for battery, a Level 6 felony. This charge stems from an incident that occurred in Linton on Friday, June 14, investigated by Officer Debbie McDonald of the Linton Police Department.
Officer McDonald was dispatched to a fight in a gravel lot where two women, related to Haywood, were setting up a food stand. McDonald learned Haywood had been there but had left before she arrived. An altercation had occurred between Haywood and one of the women, who was his aunt.
The aunt said Haywood had pulled up with his girlfriend and their baby and everything was fine but then Haywood started yelling at her about his mother. She said she told him he ruins everything for everyone, that every time they have a get-together, he has to throw a fit and ruin everything. She told him to leave.
The verbal altercation turned in to a physical altercation and when Officer McDonald interviewed the woman, then Haywood then the girlfriend, she heard a couple of different stories. But the woman said Haywood had bit her on the nose and Haywood admitted he had bit her on the nose.
Officer McDonald reported the woman had blood on her chin, blood on her nose and obvious bite marks on her nose.
Officer McDonald also reported Haywood was convicted of domestic battery in January of 2018, in January of 2012, and in June of 2011.
Less than two weeks later, Haywood’s father went in to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department to talk to Sheriff Mike Hasler. At that time, he reportedly said Haywood and his girlfriend and their baby were living with him and he was concerned about Haywood’s emotional state. The man said Haywood had attempted to ride a motorcycle (that belonged to the father) and had crashed it in the yard and broke his leg. Haywood went to the hospital where his leg was put in a cast. The man was worried that when Haywood came home, he would start arguing and fighting due to withdrawal and that anything could set Haywood off. He later said Sheriff Hasler told him not to fight with Haywood but to call the sheriff’s department.
The next day, which was last Tuesday, June 25, the man called the sheriff’s department and reported Haywood had threatened to cut his throat with a knife.
Several officers were dispatched to the man’s residence on Mineral-Koleen Road. When they arrived, the man was standing at the end of a long driveway away from the house.
Det. O’Malley reported the man’s face and neck were very red and he left the man with GCSD Deputy Harvey Holt and proceeded to the house where he found Haywood, with his leg in a soft cast, sitting outside on a porch swing with his girlfriend and their baby.
During his investigation, O’Malley interviewed Haywood twice and the father twice and he heard different stories about the details of an altercation between the two men. O’Malley reported the father said his son is a drug addict and they fight but each time there’s a disagreement, it gets more and more out of hand, and he’s too old to fight with Haywood anymore.
Haywood is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court tomorrow morning, July 2, for initial hearings in both of these cases.
After his prior arrest in December, Haywood was charged with domestic battery on a person less than 14 years old, a Level 6 felony, and neglect of a dependent – places dependent in a situation that endangers the dependent, a Level 6 felony.
Those charges were filed after Haywood allegedly shot his own son with a BB gun twice, once in the back and once in the neck.
That case is still pending.
