A woman who wrecked her car in eastern Greene County has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. She could be facing more charges.
Emily Baker
Emily Anne Baker, 35, Springville, is still under investigation but was in court last Friday for an initial hearing in one case filed against her. She’s been charged with:
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Leaving the scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor.
Baker was arrested early Tuesday, December 4, by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Heather Wood after Wood and two other deputies responded to a battery complaint.
Deputy Wood was dispatched around 10 p.m., Monday, December 3, along with GCSD Sgt. Bobby Pierce and Deputy Harvey Holt to a residence on East Robins Nest Drive, rural Springville.
The deputies learned Baker had been in an argument with a man and when it became physical, Baker allegedly hit the man in the face. That incident is still under investigation by Sgt. Pierce.
After this argument, Baker allegedly left the residence in a blue 2016 Hyundai Elanta and when she returned, it had been wrecked. Deputy Wood said the vehicle had sustained heavy damage to the front end.
When asked how she wrecked the car, Baker allegedly said she didn’t know but she was wearing boots that were too big and she thought her foot slipped from the brake to the gas and she ran straight into a guardrail at the intersection of State Roads 45 and 54.
Wood reported she detected the odor of alcohol when talking to Baker and Baker exhibited signs of intoxication. Baker failed field sobriety testing and admitted she had been drinking earlier in the evening.
Baker was transported to the sheriff’s department where she again failed field sobriety testing but consented to a chemical test which showed a blood alcohol content of .203.
Baker was booked in to jail where her bond was set at $4,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of Tuesday morning, she had not posted bond and remained in the Greene County Jail.
