When a Lyons man appeared in court Monday for an initial hearing, he was charged with operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II controlled substance in the body, a Class C misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor, as a result of a traffic stop in Worthington.

Trent Bryson Salyers, 24, Lyons, was arrested very early Sunday morning, November 25, by Worthington Police Capt. James T. Harrington.

Officer Harrington stopped a silver 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix around 12:30 a.m. on State Road 67 at Terre Haute Road for a turn signal violation. Salyers was the driver.

Harrington said during the stop, he smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from within the vehicle. When he asked about it, Salyers denied having anything illegal inside the vehicle, but Harrington said Salyers later admitted he had smoked marijuana about 45 minutes before the traffic stop.

Harrington reported Salyers failed field sobriety testing on the scene, then was transported to the sheriff’s department where he agreed to a chemical test which was conducted at Greene County General Hospital. Results are pending.

Salyers was booked in to jail with bond set at $4,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He was released later the same day as his arrest after posting $450 cash and he was ordered to be in court for the hearing this Monday, December 10.
