On Monday, August 27, Cassandra Dawn Abts, 34, Bloomfield, was arrested on a warrant and booked into the Greene County Jail where her bond was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $1,000 cash and was released the same day.

The warrant for her arrest was issued because she failed to appear for her initial hearing in Greene Superior Court last Thursday, August 23. Abts is now scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for her initial hearing on September 10.

Warrant issued for woman accused of drunk driving with ACE of .305

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a woman accused of driving with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .305. The legal limit is .08. She wound up in jail after a crash in eastern Greene County, bonded out, but then didn’t show up for her initial hearing last Thursday.

Cassandra Dawn Abts, 34, of rural Bloomfield, was first arrested on Friday morning, August 17, by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy James Carpenter.

Deputy Carpenter and GCSD Deputy Terry Wade were dispatched to the area of State Road 54 and State Road 45 after Abts called the sheriff’s department around 9 a.m. on Friday, August 17, and said she had hit a deer.

Wade arrived first and when Carpenter got there, Wade told him there was no deer hair or blood or feces from a deer on the silver 2003 Honda Civic Abts was driving and he could find no sign the vehicle had hit a deer. Wade advised Carpenter he thought Abts was impaired.

The deputies did find debris from the vehicle and they thought she may have hit some object or another vehicle, but not a deer.

Carpenter reported Abts was swaying, her speech was slurred, she failed field sobriety testing and was transported to the sheriff’s department where she again failed field sobriety testing.

Abts agreed to take a chemical test and Carpenter, a certified chemical test operator, reported test results around 10 a.m. showed she had an alcohol concentration of .305.

Abts was transported to Greene County General Hospital to be medically cleared before she was booked into the jail.

Her bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. On Saturday, August 18, she was given a court date and released after posting $400 cash.

Her initial hearing was scheduled in Greene Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. last Thursday, August 23. She was a no-show and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

When she is taken into custody and does appear in court, she will be charged with:

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and
Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
