Man arrested near Cincinnati church on methamphetamine charges
/A Linton man was arrested Oct. 29 after deputies reportedly found more than 13 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia during an encounter along State Road 54.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene Superior Court, Levi Anthony Shane Elkins was taken into custody by Deputy Sergeant Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office after a report of a man walking near the roadway carrying a suitcase.
Around 6:52 p.m., Sgt. Allor responded to a call on E. State Road 54 and observed a man matching the caller’s description wearing a rain jacket. When Allor turned his patrol vehicle around, he saw the man — later identified as Elkins — walking through the parking lot of the Cincinnati Christian Church at 11432 E. State Road 54.
Allor ordered Elkins to stop, and after a brief verbal exchange, recognized him as an individual with an active warrant for arrest. When taken into custody, Elkins initially claimed the warrant was not his, stating the middle name was different, but deputies confirmed his identity through dispatch.
During a search incident to arrest, Deputy Brayden DeMier found a clear red prescription bottle containing a white crystalline substance inside the front pouch of Elkins’ poncho. The substance later weighed 13 grams and field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Deputies also located a glass smoking device that contained residue, which also tested positive for methamphetamine.
Elkins faces charges of:
Possession of Methamphetamine between 10-28 grams, Level 4 Felony
Possession of Paraphernalia, Class C Misdemeanor
Elkins appeared in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on Oct. 31.
