Farmersburg man arrested for operating while intoxicated

A 25-year-old Farmersburg man was arrested in the early morning hours of Oct. 26, after allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Bloomfield Police Department.

Deputy Marshal Jordan T. Brant reported that around 1:40 a.m., he was conducting stationary radar patrol near the intersection of J.L. Wilson Road and State Road 54 when he observed a blue 2023 Dodge Avenger fail to use a turn signal. The vehicle was registered in Indiana and driven by Austin Ray Taylor.

Brant followed the car and again saw it turn without signaling before initiating a traffic stop on North Warren Road. Taylor pulled over slowly after activating his hazard lights.

When Brant approached, he noted Taylor’s slow speech and nervous behavior. Taylor told the officer he was “following the two vehicles ahead of him.” During the stop, Taylor discussed an upcoming appointment with the military entrance program and stated, “I already know how this is going to end up,” adding that a ticket could affect his chances of joining the military.

Sergeant Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department arrived to assist. Both officers noted the smell of alcohol on Taylor’s breath. After initially denying drinking, Taylor admitted to having “a few beers.”

When asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, Taylor refused, and he also declined a portable breath test. After being read Indiana’s Implied Consent advisement, Taylor refused a certified chemical test, acknowledging that his driver’s license would be suspended for the refusal.

Taylor was placed under arrest and transported to the Greene County Jail. Officers obtained a warrant for a blood draw, which was executed around 3:05 a.m. after Taylor initially resisted.

Court documents show Taylor has a prior conviction for operating while intoxicated in Sullivan County in 2021. He now faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction (Level 6 felony) and operating a vehicle while intoxicated (Class A misdemeanor).
