Man arrested after bag of weed lands in front of deputy

When GCSD deputies were out looking for a wanted man, they stopped at a rural residence. They didn't find the wanted man but they came into contact with another man who was asked to get out of his truck and when he did, a bag of marijuana landed in front of a deputy.

Chad Matthew Rusher

Chad Matthew Rusher, 36, Bloomfield, was arrested by Sergeant Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday night, May 25.

On Wednesday night, Sergeant Allor and Deputy Michael Stanley were out on South Mountain Springs Road to serve an arrest warrant on a wanted man. They stopped at a residence but nobody was home and so they left. But a few minutes later they saw a Ford pickup truck driving on South Mountain Springs Road and pull into the driveway at the residence.

They turned around and went back to the residence and Sergeant Allor asked the driver to get out of the truck. Believing he was the man they were looking for, the driver was asked to put his hands behind his back and informed he had a warrant out for his arrest. But the man turned out to be Chad Rusher who had gone to the residence to speak with the man the deputies were looking for.

Rusher did not have a warrant out for his arrest but unfortunately, when he got out of the truck and put his hands behind his back, a zip style bag containing a green plant material fell to the ground. So he was detained because the marijuana had dropped in front Sergeant Allor.

Then Rusher asked Sergeant Allor to get his can of smokeless tobacco from his vehicle out of the cup holder. Sergeant Allor reported he did not see the smokeless tobacco in any cup holder but when Rusher said to go ahead and search it, Sergeant Allor opened the center console and saw a zip style bag containing a white crystal substance. During a search, he found another zip style bag containing white powder residue and a metal socket containing green plant material. The white crystal substance later field-tested positive as methamphetamine and the green plant material later tested positive as marijuana.

Rusher was booked into the Greene County jail at 10:42 PM. He was being held without bond pending court appearance.

Rusher is facing charges of:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.
