Linton woman accused of stabbing her son during altercation

A Linton woman arrested last Thursday night is accused of stabbing her son in the arm with a sharp filet knife while trying to take away his phone because he was recording an altercation between the two of them.

Jacqueline Lynn Hale

Jacqueline Lynn Hale, 59, Linton, was arrested by Officer Wayman JR Blazier of the Linton Police Department last Thursday night, May 26.

According to a police report, when Hale's son went to her house to show her a camera he had for sale, she told him she didn't want it and could not afford it. Prior tension between Hale and her son apparently then led to an altercation which turned physical.

During interviews, Hale claimed the son had wanted her dead for a long time and she claimed that he said he wished she was dead. Hale allegedly admitted she went and got a sharp filet knife and held it by the blade with the blade pointed towards her. The son said she told him multiple times to kill her and that this incident occurred with a young child in the room.

When this happened, the son got his cell phone out and started to record the incident. The recording shows Hale with the knife in her right hand holding the blade toward herself while telling the son to take the knife and kill her. The son can be heard telling her to put the knife down.

At one point in the video when Hale sees that he is recording the incident she grabbed at the phone and tried to take it away. It was during this confrontation while she was still holding the knife, she appeared to grab onto him and the tip of the knife made contact with his left arm causing it to bleed. The son then pushed her away and he she fell to the couch. After that, the son left.

Hale told the officer she forgot the knife was in her hand when she grabbed him trying to get the phone.

After the interviews at the Linton Police Department, Hale was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail at 11:05 PM. Her bond was set at $14,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. She has since posted $1400 and been released.

Hale is scheduled to be in Greene Superior Court for her initial hearing on June 2 when she will be facing charges of:

  • Domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, and

  • Domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years, a Level 6 felony.
