Lyons woman arrested on drug charges following traffic stop
/A Lyons woman was arrested Aug. 13 after Greene County deputies said they found methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene Superior Court, Sgt. Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department stopped a gray 2005 Kia around 8:02 p.m. near the intersection of County Roads 800 and 300 in Lyons because the vehicle did not have a license plate.
The driver, identified as Emma M. Denny, 36, of Lyons, allegedly had a glass smoking device in plain view on the driver’s seat. Allor reported he could also smell marijuana coming from the vehicle.
After Denny declined to consent to a search, Allor said he searched the vehicle due to the visible device and odor of marijuana. Deputies reported finding multiple smoking devices, a grinder, a glass jar containing a wax substance, and a bag with green plant material that later field-tested positive for THC.
Deputies also reported locating a bag containing a white crystal substance in the driver’s side door pocket next to Denny’s wallet. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine, according to court records.
Denny allegedly admitted the substance looked like methamphetamine or cocaine and told deputies she had used methamphetamine days earlier but claimed the drugs were not hers.
She was transported to the Greene County Jail and is facing preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor. She was held without bond.
She is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on Aug. 18.
