Health Department sponsoring 18-week Food as Medicine Program
/The Greene County Health Department is sponsoring the local Food as Medicine Program which addresses obesity and chronic disease management/prevention with weekly access to fresh fruit and vegetables, nutrition education, and live cooking demonstrations.
Program’s partners include Greene County General Hospital, Purdue Extension – Nutrition Education Program, Greene County Health, Inc., Pregnancy Choices, and Indiana University School of Public Health and the Center for Rural Engagement.
Greene County residents who have chronic disease or are at risk for chronic disease, pregnant and obese are eligible to join this 18-week program targeting healthy eating choices on Saturdays, 11am to 1pm, starting August 23, 2025, located at Linton-Stockton High School, 10 H St NE, Linton, IN 47441.
Programming includes:
Nutritional education and live cooking demonstrations. Learn to make healthy choices with our 6-week series of live, in-person cooking demonstrations. Recipes feature the DASH diet principles, focusing on nutrition and portion control.
18 weeks of food boxes. Receive fresh fruits, vegetables, and other nutritional items sourced from local farmers and producers.
Biometric screenings. Screenings will be conducted at program intake, after 120 days of healthy eating support, and one year from initial participation to track bodily changes.
Comprehensive case management. Includes medical and social determinants of health risk screening and check-ins to help remove any barriers to program completion.
