Update at 10:03 p.m. Sunday: The Indiana State Police Silver Alert 028-2018 issued on Saturday, June 9, 2018 on Robert Kennedy has been cancelled as of Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 10:03 pm.

It’s been well over 24 hours since Robert Kennedy Jr. went missing and the Linton Police Department is continuing to actively investigate and attempt to find Mr. Kennedy as soon as possible.

Late Sunday afternoon, LPD Police Chief Troy Jerrell said, “We now know more than we did. We know he’s not been in this area.”

Kennedy is on the road, quite a distance away. They know he is trying to get back home to Linton, but they think he’s unsure of the way home. They also know he’s in need of help and medical attention but he’s not asking for it.

Jerrell expressed the LPD’s concern for Kennedy’s safe return home saying “time is of the essence” as he asked anyone who thinks they may see Kennedy to immediately report it to law enforcement.

Jerrell said Kennedy left his home around 12:45 p.m. Saturday, with his dog, on a short trip, to go to McDonald’s to get a bite to eat. When he did not return as expected, his wife called the police.

The LPD issued a local alert around 3:15 p.m. Saturday.

Around 6:45 p.m. Saturday, the Indiana State Police declared a statewide Silver Alert and issued a press release to media statewide.

Jerrell said Kennedy left his cell phone at home when he left to go to McDonald’s but he does have a credit card with him.

“We are able to track purchases on the credit card and we know he has stopped for gas three times since he left Linton. We’re following him.”

This is not Mr. Kennedy's car, but it is a photo of a white 2010 Chevrolet Impala that would be similar to Kennedy's vehicle.

Jerrell said he made one stop for gas in Speedway (in the Indianapolis area) then another stop earlier today (Sunday) in Lebanon, Indiana.

Officers were able to talk to people in Lebanon where he stopped.

Jerrell said since Kennedy is a paraplegic, and he does not have his wheelchair with him, he would not be able to pump his own gas.

“He asked someone to pump the gas for him and he asked for directions to a highway,” said Jerrell. “He said he was trying to get to Linton.”

Jerrell said although it’s a good sign that he knows he needs to get back to Linton, Jerrell is concerned about the things he didn’t ask for.

“We’re concerned about his mindset. We’re sure he’s in need of medical attention. And he’s probably not been out of his car since 12:45 yesterday. We don’t know if he stopped somewhere to rest – he may have been driving since yesterday,” said Jerrell.

“I’m concerned about fatigue, the heat and confusion.

“Although he did ask for help pumping gas, and he asked for directions, he had the opportunity to ask for help and he didn’t.”

Jerrell said they do not know which direction Kennedy was traveling when he left the station in Lebanon.

Kennedy may, or may not, now be closer to Greene County.

Jerrell said he’s hoping when Kennedy makes another stop, someone will notice him and call to get him some help or delay his departure until law enforcement arrives.

Robert Kennedy is a 73-year-old white male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 175 pounds, with gray hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue shorts. He has his small white dog with him. Before he was reported missing, he was last seen Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 12:45 p.m. in Linton, Indiana.

Kennedy is believed to be in extreme danger and may require medical assistance.

He is driving a white 2010 Chevy Impala with Indiana handicap plate D531DW.

Jerrell asks for people on the road to keep their eye out for Kennedy and if anyone thinks they may have seen him, please call 911, their local law enforcement agency, the ISP or the Linton Police Department at 812-847-4411.
