Linton man accused of shoplifting

A Linton man is accused of selecting numerous items in a Linton store, concealing some of them on his person and some in a bag he pulled from his pocket, then walking out of the store with paying for them.

Jeramy Jason Walls, 41, Linton, is facing a preliminary charge of theft, a Class A misdemeanor, as a result of an investigation by Officer Adam King of the Linton Police Department.

Officer King was dispatched at 6:08 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, to the Walmart store in Linton where he talked to three of the store’s Asset Protection Associates (APA) about a man, later identified to be Jeramy Walls, they said had been caught shoplifting.

One of the APAs allegedly watched Walls select multiple items in the hardware department including a Dremel Lite, a rotary tool, a utility knife and a multi-tool. He said he followed Walls throughout the store and was watching when Walls went to other departments and selected a pair of shoes, two watches, two hats, a package of socks, a jacket and a magazine.

According to Officer King, the APA said he watched Wall in the apparel department as he pulled a Walmart bag out of his pocket and put the Dremel Lite and the rotary tool in the bag. He said Wall removed the watches from the packaging and placed one his wrist and the other in a pocket. Then he removed the multi-tool and the utility knife from packaging and put them in a pocket.

Walls allegedly then attempted to exit the store without paying for the items but he was stopped by the APAs. The value of the items Walls allegedly attempted to steal was $252.52.

Walls was not arrested at the time but a criminal case was filed against him in Greene Superior Court on Thursday, January 7.

Walls is facing a preliminary charge of theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

A summons has been sent to him via signature mail ordering him to appear at an initial hearing set for March 11. Court records indicate the mail was returned – unable to forward.
