A couple driving through Linton last week with a headlight out attracted the attention of an LPD officer and a traffic stop resulted in the arrest of both on charges of possession of methamphetamine.

Larry Howard Conrad, 34, and Ayla Marie Kieffer, 31, both from Vincennes, were arrested by Officer Cayden Walker of the Linton Police Department on Sunday night, October 10.

Kieffer was the driver of a white Chevrolet truck that was westbound on State Road 54 in Linton that Sunday with a headlight out. Conrad was a passenger. Officer Walker was on routine patrol when he saw the truck passing the park and initiated a traffic stop.

Officer Walker reported the two seemed nervous and he asked Conrad, the registered owner of the truck, if he would consent to a search of the vehicle. Conrad agreed and when Kieffer was getting out of the truck, she allegedly said she was “hiding stuff for her brother” and that there was a “pipe that her brother uses for meth” in her purse.

LPD Officer Bobby Pierce was assisting on the scene and reported that inside the purse, he found the pipe with a white powder residue that field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

When Conrad was searched, Officer Walker reported he found a clear piece of plastic containing a white powdery substance that also field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

Both were placed under arrest. Conrad was booked into the Greene County Jail at 11:08 p.m., Kieffer at 11:28 p.m. Both were held without bond until they appeared in court last Thursday morning for their initial hearings.
