When a Linton woman, accused of driving 94 mph near the Lighthouse around 2 a.m. one Saturday, appeared in court last Thursday, she was charged with six counts involving OVWI and one count of reckless driving.

Cassandra Wrenea Winters, 39, of Linton was arrested early Saturday, August 10, by Lt. Marvin Holt of the Bloomfield Police Department.

When Winters appeared in Greene Superior Court last Thursday morning, August 22, she was charged with:

Reckless driving, a Class B misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Level 6 felony,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony,
Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony.

Lt. Holt and Deputy Davis Aerne were both on duty and were sitting stationary in the area of Midwest Gas Company on State Road 54 west of Bloomfield around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, when a vehicle passed by that appeared to be going 80-90 in a 50 mph zone. Lt. Holt pulled in behind the vehicle and reported using his radar to clock the vehicle’s speed at 94 mph before reaching the junction of State Road 54 and 57, also known as the Lighthouse Junction. After coming to a stop and continuing on SR 54, the vehicle was clocked at 64 mph in a 50 mph zone and a traffic stop was initiated near the fairgrounds.

Winters was identified as the driver of a silver 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe with one passenger riding along.

Lt. Holt reported he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and when he asked Winters if she had been drinking, she said she may have had three PBRs at the Bluebird in Bloomington.

Winters allegedly failed field sobriety testing and a portable breath test on the scene and was transported to the sheriff’s department.

When Deputy Aerne administered a certified breath test at the sheriff’s department around 3:20 a.m., he reported results showed she had a BAC of .216. The legal limit is .08.

At 3:36 a.m., she was booked into the Greene County Jail where her bond was set at $8,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $850 and was released later the same day and given a court date for her initial hearing.

According to Lt. Holt, Winters has a previous conviction in 2016 after being charged with felony and misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
