Cooling centers requested to beat the heat

Greene County Emergency Management Agency Director Roger Axe is asking churches and fire stations to open to the public this week as high temperatures are expected every day.

“The heat wave we will experience will be extremely dangerous for people without proper air conditioning,” Axe said, nothing the those at highest risk are elderly, very young, and those with medical conditions

“The more recent forecast points to the hottest days through Tuesday with a small dip in temperatures on Wednesday and then the temperature goes back up on Thursday,” he said in a press release. “To help these people, we are asking our churches and fire stations to open cooling centers this week at least through Thursday.”

Those who are willing to participate should contact Axe at 812-384-4127 or greene-jeans@sbcglobal.net.
