Bloomington man arrested after allegedly stabbing truck
/A Bloomington man was arrested May 18 on a warrant and is facing a misdemeanor charge after allegedly stabbing a truck with a knife during a public disturbance in Bloomfield.
Ricky Eugene Porter, 28, was taken into custody by Bloomfield Deputy Marshal Jordan Brant with assistance from Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputies Michael Stanley and Caleb Sipes. The warrant was issued May 7.
Porter has been charged in Greene Superior Court with criminal mischief with property damage valued between $750 and $50,000, a Class A misdemeanor. The charge stems from an incident that occurred the evening of April 18, according to a probable cause affidavit filed May 6.
Brant responded to a 911 call around 7:56 p.m. from a man who reported that someone had stabbed his maroon truck on Franklin Street. While en route, Brant was flagged down by another witness who said his children had run inside after seeing a man and woman arguing on the sidewalk.
Multiple witnesses identified the man as Porter. According to statements provided to law enforcement, a truck approached the couple and rolled its window down. Porter allegedly became agitated, pulled out a knife and stabbed the side of the vehicle.
The caller and two other witnesses told police that Porter aggressively approached the truck and shouted, “What the [expletive] are you staring at?” before stabbing it. Porter and the woman then walked toward a nearby residence.
Authorities canvassed the area but were initially unable to locate the pair. Multiple residents, including juveniles, corroborated the account. Porter was later identified by name through tips and interviews.
On April 20, officers located the woman at a residence on Washington Street. She confirmed that Porter stabbed the truck but said the argument between them had not turned physical. She told police Porter had returned to Bloomington but was unsure of his whereabouts.
The truck owner later submitted a written repair estimate totaling $2,544.54, which was added to the case file.
According to the affidavit, Porter has active warrants in Monroe County for theft-related offenses and in Putnam County for criminal mischief. His criminal history includes 24 prior counts of criminal mischief filed since 2018.
Porter was booked into the Greene County Jail, where his bond was set at $1,000 surety with 10 percent cash allowed. He is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on May 20.
