Assistance available for tornado victims at former National Guard Armory in Linton
/A multi-service recovery center will open Monday to assist residents affected by the recent tornado, according to Greene County Emergency Management Agency Director Roger Axe.
The center will be located at the former National Guard Armory, 2000 West State Road 54, and will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is expected to remain open for several days.
With support from the United Way, the site will serve as a hub for receiving both material and financial donations. Several relief organizations, including the American Red Cross and Baptist Disaster Relief of Indiana, will be on hand to provide assistance.
Donations of bottled water, hygiene products, diapers, wipes, and work gloves are especially needed. Monetary donations are also being accepted.
Post-disaster counseling and mental health services will be available at the Linton Assembly of God Church, 1503 A St. NE, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“If people are having trouble coping with the tornado, we have people ready to help,” Axe said. “The quicker we can give help and assistance, the better the chance of the victim making a complete recovery.”
Tornado damage can be reported by calling 211, where a dedicated hotline has been established.
“This has been tragic for so many people in our community,” Axe said. “Our goal is to assist them in getting back on their feet.”
