Deputies checking a house in Bloomfield for a man wanted in a felony case suspected a woman was helping him avoid arrest. One deputy told her if he found out she was assisting him, he would file a charge against her.
Jennifer Hockman
Jennifer Lynn Hockman, 49, Bloomfield, was arrested yesterday, Thursday, September 19, by Deputy David Elmore of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on a warrant that was issued following an investigation by Deputy Elmore.
Hockman is accused of assisting a criminal, a Level 6 felony, specifically Roberto Jose Deleone Ramos, when Deputy Elmore and other GCSD deputies were attempting to locate Ramos.
According to Deputy Elmore, Ramos was wanted on a warrant issued for an alleged probation violation on his conviction of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
The deputies were looking for Ramos in late July and early August and from time to time were checking for him at Hockman’s residence on South Washington Street in Bloomfield. A vehicle was registered in the name of Ramos at the South Washington Street address, and the sheriff’s department had also received information that Ramos was there. The vehicle was parked at the residence more than once when deputies were there.
On July 22, when Deputies Elmore and Camron Frye were there, with the Ramos trucked parked at the residence, Hockman gave the deputies permission to search her house, but they didn’t find Ramos. When they asked to look in the garage, she allegedly said she didn’t have a key to the garage.
Deputy Elmore reported that he told Hockman that if he found out she was assisting Ramos, he would file a charge against her and he said she told him she understood.
On another check, on August 5, Deputy Elmore and Det. Shawn Cullison saw the Ramos truck parked in the driveway but nobody answered a knock on the door of the garage or the house. They requested a search warrant.
When executed, they did not locate Ramos but Hockman was there and her cell phone started ringing during the search. Deputy Elmore said he could see the phone and could see that the name on the Caller ID was Ramos. The cell phone was collected as evidence but Hockman asked if she could use it to call Ramos before they took it. The deputy agreed, as long as she made the call with the speakerphone on. He reported Ramos said he would turn himself in on Friday after getting paid. The deputy told Ramos he needed to turn himself in that day. Ramos allegedly said he couldn’t do that.
Deputy Elmore then requested another search warrant for Hockman’s Samsung Galaxy Note 8.1. The deputy reported finding photos of Ramos and Hockman dated in the days right after deputies had first talked to Hockman on July 22 and warned her about assisting a criminal. He also reported finding text messages between Ramos and Hockman that appear to have been exchanged about the time deputies were at the home on August 5.
Deputy Elmore did as he had promised – a charge was filed against Hockman on September 11 and a warrant issued for her arrest.
Her bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $400, was released and will be scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing.
The warrant is still outstanding for the arrest of Ramos.
