James Douglas ‘Jimmy’ Shields

James Douglas ‘Jimmy’ Shields, 63, of Linton, Indiana, passed from this life with family by his side at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Jimmy was born on January 20, 1961, in Sullivan, Indiana to James Lewis and Wilma E. ‘Jean’ (Rhoads) Shields. Jimmy married Denise E. (Everhart) Shields on April 27, 2002.

At the tender age of 8, Jimmy started working at the Ace Hardware store with his family. His love for mechanical items became stronger and he was able to assist customers at an early age. He loved solving problems for customers. As he got a little older and before getting his driver’s license, he obtained his pilot’s license for commercial and crop dusting. While in high school, he would often take his friends up to fly. He had a love for cars, trucks and motorcycles, owning several in his lifetime. He enjoyed racing midgets and go-karts, woodworking, tinkering with his tractor, fixing anything he could get his hands on, and working around his property, maintaining it to a pristine condition. Jimmy will be dearly missed by those who knew him.

Family left to cherish the memories of Jimmy include, his wife, Denise; brother, Fred (Mary) Shields of Linton; sister, Janette (Bob) Evans of Linton, nephew Levi (Tina) Shields and his best friends, his puppies, Cooper and Yogi.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a celebration of life to honor the life of Jimmy from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at VFW Post #7118 in Linton. Jimmy will be laid to rest in Claiborne Cemetery in Hymera, Indiana at a later date.
