Wayne Fred Markle

Wayne Fred Markle, age 71, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 12:58 PM on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Glenburn Home in Linton. He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on October 3, 1952, the son of Wayne E. and Joan (Hartman) Markle.

Fred was a 1970 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School and attended Vincennes University for Business. During his youth, Fred worked for his dear friends Frank and Polly Miller at the Linton Cine' Theater. He retired from Peabody Coal Company after working several years as a union coal miner. Fred was well-known in Linton and surrounding communities as an owner of Markle Music, with his wife Kathy. Throughout the years Fred and Kathy also sold equipment, golf carts, owned a bicycle shop and Markle Sign Shop.

Fred was a well known personality in Linton as a local musician, historian speaking to grade school classes, and served as a Linton City Councilman for two terms. He was a founder of the Carnegie Arts Center and was inducted into the Linton Hall of Fame. Fred truly had Linton in his heart.

He was a member of Linton First Christian Church and a former member of the Linton Elks and Linton F. & A. M. Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Ann (Underwood) Markle of Linton; like a son, Shad Cox; and a host of friends and community he loved.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Faye Underwood.

Private arrangements are in care of Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton.
