It was announced earlier that as a mark of respect for former U.S. Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, the White House has issued a proclamation for display of the United States flag at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of his interment scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022. But that is not the day of his interment. Sen. Reid is being honored in his home state of Nevada on Saturday then he will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol on January 12. The day of his internment has not been announced yet. Former Sen. Reid passed away on Dec. 28, 2021.

The White House issued a proclamation that the United States flag be displayed at half-staff as a mark of respect for the memory and longstanding public service of former U.S. Sen. Robert J. Dole, of Kansas, who passed away on Dec. 5, 2021. Flags are to remain lowered to half-staff until sunset on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021.

Additionally, the White House also issued a proclamation in accordance with Public Law 103-308, as amended, for the United States flag to be displayed at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Tuesday, Dec. 7. Public Law 103-308 also calls for U.S. citizens to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities in honor of those who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.

UPDATE: President Biden's initial Peace Officers Memorial Day proclamation indicated the flag should be flown at half-staff on Saturday, May 15, 2021. That is the normal protocol for most years in accordance to “4 U.S. Flag Code § 7”. However, there is an exception to that protocol that reads, “unless that day is also Armed Forces Day.” This year May 15 is also Armed Forces Day and according to U.S. Flag Code, the flag should be flown at full-staff. President Biden has updated his proclamation……….
