Due to the impact of last week’s winter storm, the filing deadline was extended to noon today / Monday, February 7. Now that the deadline has passed and the filing window has closed, GreeneStreets is at work to post the final list of candidates as soon as possible.

The deadline was noon today/Friday, but Amanda Lewellyn from the Greene County Voter Registration Office reported the office was closed on Friday due to the storm. This week, the state pre-approved the extension for all offices that were closed Friday.

CLOSED FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2022
Greene County Prosecutor’s Office: Due to the continued snowfall and hazardous road conditions, the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office will be closed on Friday, according to Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw.
Greene County Courts, including Circuit, Superior and Magistrate: The Greene County Courts will be closed on Friday, February 4, 2022 due to inclement weather, according to Superior Court Judge Dena Martin.
Greene County Auditor’s Office: Auditor Matt Baker said earlier this week that due to weather conditions, the Auditor’s Office would most likely be closed on Friday.
Greene County Health Department: Closed Thursday, February 3 and Friday, February 4 due to the weather. Their Covid Testing Site and Covid Vaccination Sites will also be closed for those days. Tentative, depending on how the roads are on Saturday, February 5, they may have to close their Testing and Vaccination sites, but they said they will be sure to call anyone scheduled for Saturday and let them know about the closing.
Greene County Assessor’s Office: Assessor Dawn Abrams says, “Due to inclement weather, our office will be closed today, Friday February 4. We will be working remotely. Please email assessor@co.greene.in.us if you need assistance.”

Level 2 means: “…conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a "watch" local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.”
“After conferring with Greene County Highway Superintendent, Roger Hamilton, we feel that road conditions are such that with the incoming snow they will only worsen today. That is why I
have taken this action to protect the citizens of the county. Although the roads may not look dangerous now, still people on the road only increase the chance of accidents and injury.” Abrams said.
Also, people may start out, but as conditions worsen, they may have great difficulty getting back or not back at all. As we have said before, stay off the roads.” Abrams concluded.

Closed on Thursday: Auditor’s Office, Treasurer’s Office, Recorder’s Office, Assessor’s Office, Health Department, Community Corrections Administrative Office and Greene County Prosecutor’s Office. Some offices may also be closed on Friday.

Advisory: Level 1
The lowest level of local travel advisory means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.
“Although this is only an Advisory Level, still we want people to limit their travel to only the most necessary reasons. The more vehicles on the road the greater the risks of accidents. Also, conditions could become worse and people could get caught in the situation. Don’t drive unless you absolutely have to. Take notice and govern yourself accordingly.” Abrams said.

However, the incoming storm could have an impact on the deadline, especially if courthouses and voter registration offices are forced to close due to the storm. According to Amanda Lewellyn of the Greene County Voter Registration Office, the state sent a message out today saying, “For local office and party office candidates that are required to file with the clerk, the candidate filing deadline would be moved to noon, the next day your office is open but only if your office is closed on Friday, February 4, 2022.” So if you intend to file at the last minute, contact the Greene County Voter Registration Office in the Greene County Clerk’s Office on the second floor of the Greene County Courthouse by calling 812-384-2015 to talk to Amanda Lewellyn or Lori Dickinson to confirm deadlines in case the office might be closed on Friday.
