Worthington woman arrested on OWI charges after reportedly driving across center line

A Worthington woman was arrested Thursday night after officers reported seeing her vehicle traveling all over the road before crossing the center line in Bloomfield, according to court documents.

Angela Dee Abrell, 57, was arrested at 11:04 p.m. June 25.

According to a supplemental probable cause affidavit, Worthington Police Officer Jeremy Brinkman initiated a traffic stop on a maroon Jeep Liberty after observing the vehicle swerving within its lane and crossing the center line while traveling south on State Road 157. Troopers with the Indiana State Police were requested to assist with an operating while intoxicated investigation.

When Trooper Caleb Sipes arrived, he made contact with Abrell, who reportedly admitted she had consumed alcohol. She told the trooper she had consumed four beers and stated they were "all like 4.2." The trooper also detected the odor of alcohol coming from her breath.

Court documents state Abrell advised she had undergone two knee replacements, so officers did not administer the walk-and-turn or one-leg stand field sobriety tests. Instead, a horizontal gaze nystagmus test was conducted, during which the trooper reported observing six out of six clues of impairment.

Abrell later submitted to a preliminary breath test, which reportedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.098. She was transported to the Greene County Jail, where a certified breath test recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.110.

Abrell faces the following preliminary charges:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor

  • Operating a vehicle with an ACE of .08 or more, a Class C misdemeanor
