Bloomington man arrested after barricading himself inside Greene County home

A Bloomington man was taken into custody Friday morning after deputies with the Greene County Sheriff's Department located a wanted subject who allegedly barricaded himself inside a residence in rural Greene County.

According to the Greene County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded around 7:02 a.m. June 26 to the Ivan Court area after receiving a report that a wanted individual had a firearm.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a man matching the description of the wanted subject enter a residence. Deputies secured the perimeter and ordered the individual to exit the home.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for the residence before making entry. Once inside, deputies discovered the man had barricaded himself inside a back room and refused repeated commands to surrender.

After several warnings that a K-9 would be deployed, deputies fired pepper balls into the room where the suspect was located. A short time later, the man complied with deputies' commands and was taken into custody without further incident.

During the investigation, deputies recovered two firearms and what appeared to be a controlled substance.

Steven Taylor Jr., of Bloomington, was initially arrested on outstanding felony warrants from Monroe County. He was later arrested in Greene County on the following preliminary charges:

  • Possession of methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm, a Level 5 felony

  • Unlawful carrying of a firearm, a Level 5 felony

  • Possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony

  • Failure to aid, a Class B misdemeanor

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor

The Greene County Sheriff's Department said the investigation remains ongoing.
