Worthington woman arrested for operating while intoxicated with prior conviction
/A Worthington woman was arrested May 11 on felony and misdemeanor charges after police say she was driving under the influence with a prior OWI conviction earlier this year.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene Superior Court, Worthington Police Officer Chandler Willard was patrolling northbound on State Road 67 around 6:20 p.m. when he observed a gray Ford Escape traveling southbound at an unsafe distance behind another vehicle. Officer Willard turned around and attempted to catch up with the SUV, which made a sudden turn onto County Road 550 North at a high rate of speed, causing the vehicle to nearly fishtail on the gravel road.
The vehicle, later identified as being driven by 66-year-old Kathy Mider, turned around in the Citizens Energy Group parking lot and continued southbound before turning east onto State Road 57, where Willard initiated a traffic stop near County Road 315 North.
Willard reported that Mider appeared visibly impaired—exhibiting jittery movements, dilated pupils, and rapid speech, according to the probable cause affidavit. She denied using drugs or alcohol, but her behavior raised suspicion. Officer Jared Pirtle of the Linton Police Department arrived to assist and noted the odor of alcohol when speaking with Mider on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Mider declined to participate in standardized field sobriety tests or a portable breath test. Based on her driving behavior, physical signs of impairment, and the smell of alcohol, officers determined there was probable cause to believe she was intoxicated. Mider was read Indiana’s Implied Consent and agreed to submit to a certified chemical test via blood draw at Greene County General Hospital.
During a search of Mider’s vehicle, officers discovered a large styrofoam cup on the floorboard containing liquid that smelled of alcohol, empty beverage containers in the driver’s door, and an open container in the trunk. The vehicle was impounded, and Mider was transported to the hospital and later booked into the Greene County Jail.
Mider faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction within seven years, a Level 6 felony, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction within seven years, a Level 6 Felony. She has a prior OWI conviction from February 2025 in Pike County.
Mider is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court May 19 for an initial hearing.
