Worthington man arrested for domestic battery after throwing popcorn can

A 20-year-old Worthington man found himself behind bars Oct. 11 on a charge of domestic battery after allegedly throwing a can of popcorn at his grandmother, resulting in a laceration to her leg.

Anthony Dakota Moreno was arrested on a charge of domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury following an incident in which he allegedly argued with his grandma and then threw a popcorn can at her. According to a probable cause affidavit written by Worthington Police Department Officer Caleb Ray, the can struck the victim’s right leg resulting in a small laceration just below the knee and severe bruising and swelling.

Moreno alleged he’d had a bad day because he’d stepped in dog feces. According to the probable cause affidavit, he became upset with the victim because she was yelling at him and he threw the can at her trying to create distance between them.

The victim, who went to Greene County General Hospital for treatment, alleged she and Moreno argue frequently but their disagreements had never become physical.

Moreno was transported to Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $4,ooo surety with 10% cash allowed.

He appeared in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on Oct. 17.
