Vinceness man arrested on drug, gun related charges; tosses gun in White River
/A Vincennes man was arrested Oct. 25 on a handful of charges including drug-related and gun-related charges following a complaint that he had been trespassing on property near the White River.
According to a news release from Greene County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Jordan Allor, John Michael was arrested on the following preliminary charges: unlawful carrying of a firearm, a Level 5 Felony; possession of methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm, a Level 5 Felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony; possession of a syringe, a Level 6 Felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor; refusal to aid an officer, a Class C Misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C Misdemeanor. Also, according to the news release, Michael had active warrants in Knox, Daviess, and Martin counties.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department received a trespassing complaint on South Baseline Road in Bloomfield. According to the news release, the reporting party alleged he witnessed subjects open a gate to his property and drive down a path toward the White River.
When officers arrived, they located two male subjects, one of whom was Michael. According to the news release, Michael fled the area on foot and into the river in an attempt to evade officers. Michael was observed throwing items from his person into the water. The following day, according to the news release, deputies returned to the scene and with the use of magnets, located and recovered a handgun in the river. It was retrieved from the location where Michael had been seen throwing items.
Sgt. Allor is investigating the incident and was assisted by the Bloomfield Police Department and Worthington Police Department.
