Uncooperative man arrested north of Switz City with a stolen vehicle nearby

A man who was arrested in late October following a hit and run accident was arrested again over the weekend when deputies found him walking on State Road 67 north of Switz City with a stolen vehicle abandoned nearby.

Dylan Michael Hendricks

Dylan Michael Hendricks, 30, Bicknell, was arrested by Deputy Sgt. Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early Sunday, November 28, following an incident that started late Saturday, November 27.

At 11:12 p.m. last Saturday, a caller reported there was a vehicle sitting at the intersection of State Road 67 and County Road 315 North, with the lights on. The caller also said he saw a man without a jacket walking south towards Switz City. It was approximately 35 degrees outside at that time.

The vehicle was a white 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier. Sgt. Allor found it in the middle of the county road with lights on but nobody inside. When he asked Dispatch to check the license plate, he found out it had been reported as stolen out of Clay County.

Then he located the walker on SR 67 south of CR 200 North, wearing a white tee shirt. He was identified as Dylan Hendricks, who did not comply with orders to show his hands and face away from the deputy. Sgt. Allor noted Hendricks appeared to be impaired on a controlled substance with fast speech and quick jerking movements. He was told repeatedly to face away from the deputy and though he did show his hands, he turned his body sideways and said he didn’t know what the deputy wanted him to do.

Hendricks was told to listen to the commands but the situation continued with Hendricks standing sideways and turning and walking toward the deputy. He was then told to get down on the ground but he didn’t do it.

Hendricks was tased but still did not cooperate and was tased again. After GCSD Deputy Harvey Holt arrived to assist, Hendricks allegedly was told numerous times to put his hands behind his back but he refused and tried to pull away and run, and fight Deputy Holt. After additional taser strikes and a struggle, he was handcuffed.

After GCSD Deputies Michael Coy, Devan Goad and Kelly Hutchens arrived on the scene, an ambulance was requested and Hendricks was transported to Greene County General Hospital for a medical check. Deputy Holt rode in the ambulance with Hendricks. After Hendricks was cleared by medical staff, he was transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 4:36 a.m. with bond set at $6,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

At some point, Hendricks allegedly said he had been driving his buddy’s car and that his buddy was letting him use it. But when deputies talked to the vehicle’s owner, he said he had allowed another man, who lives with Hendricks, to use his vehicle but had not given permission for Hendricks to take the vehicle. He alleged Hendricks had gotten hold of the keys and he discovered the vehicle was missing around 6 p.m. He said he tried to call Hendricks but Hendricks had turned his phone off. So the owner reported the vehicle as stolen around 8 p.m.

Hendricks is facing charges of:

  • Auto theft – theft of entire automobile, a Level 6 felony,

  • Two counts of resisting law enforcement – knowingly or intentionally forcibly resists, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Refusal to aid an officer, a Class B misdemeanor.

Hendricks was also arrested in late October after allegedly being involved in a hit and run accident. That case is still pending against Hendricks.
