Teen arrested for possession of alcohol, OWI

A Shirley man was arrested early June 26 after a concerned motorist reported his vehicle swerving across U.S. 231 in Greene County.

Noah Bradley Webb, 18, of Shirley, was arrested at 5:29 a.m. June 26.

Webb originally faced a minor in possession of alcohol charge; however, information was forwarded to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office recommending the additional operating while intoxicated charges. After review, additional charges were added.

Webb faces charges of:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor

  • Minor in possession of alcohol, a Class C misdemeanor

According to a probable cause affidavit, a Bloomfield Police Department deputy marshal responded shortly before 4:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a reckless driver traveling south on U.S. 231. The caller reported that a small black passenger car was swerving across the roadway and traveling about 40 mph in a 55-mph zone.

The deputy located the vehicle near the Interstate 69 interchange and observed it repeatedly crossing the center line. Even after emergency lights were activated, the vehicle continued traveling a short distance and again entered the northbound lane before eventually stopping near the intersection of U.S. 231 and State Road 58.

Court documents state Webb told the officer he had not slept in three days and was on his way to work. He initially denied consuming alcohol, claiming his passenger had been drinking and that was why he was driving.

The deputy reported Webb had bloodshot, glassy eyes and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. During field sobriety testing, officers documented multiple signs of impairment.

After consenting to a portable breath test and a certified chemical breath test, Webb registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.072, according to the affidavit.

Although the result was below Indiana's legal limit of 0.08 for adults, officers also discovered two unopened miniature bottles of Fireball whisky in Webb's pocket. Because Webb is under the age of 21, the alcohol was seized as evidence.

Investigators allege Webb's driving behavior and signs of impairment supported the operating while intoxicated allegations despite the breath test result.

Webb is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court July 2 for an initial hearing.
