Governor directs flags to half-staff on Friday for Peace Officer Memorial Day

INDIANAPOLIS – Governor Eric J. Holcomb is directing flags statewide to be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day. Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, May 15. Gov. Holcomb also asks businesses and residents across the state to lower their flags to half-staff on Friday to commemorate Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Washington DC – The annual National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund Candlelight Vigil will take place virtually this year due to the COVID-19 public health crisis. For over 30 years, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund has held a Candlelight Vigil to honor those who have died in the line of duty. This year, the names of fallen U.S. law enforcement officers will be formally dedicated on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial during a virtual Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday, May 13 at 8 p.m. ET.

National Police Week 2019: Flags to fly at half staff on Wednesday

This week is designated as National Police Week 2019 and Wednesday, May 15, is National Peace Officers Memorial Day. On Wednesday, flags are to be flown at half staff in honor of the nation’s law enforcement officers who have lost their life in the line of duty. In Indiana, flags will already be at half staff until sunset on Wednesday in honor of Senator Lugar.
