The driver of a semi-tractor pulling a loaded box trailer involved in a one-vehicle crash on I-69 early Sunday morning was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated before he was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.
Personnel from multiple agencies responded to a location in the Solsberry area Sunday afternoon where a truck crashed into a home causing extensive damage. One juvenile was in the home and one person was trapped in the truck but no injuries were reported. The driver said the brakes failed. A deputy says an investigation is ongoing.
A Thursday night crash involving two vehicles on State Road 54 east of Bloomfield that injured two drivers and shut the highway down for several hours is still under investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police.
The ramp from State Road 445 onto I-69 southbound in eastern Greene County was closed for a few hours Monday after a semi-tractor and trailer rollover crash at 10:34 a.m. Deputies from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded along with personnel from the Indiana State Police, Center-Jackson Fire Department, the Greene County Ambulance Service and Bland Towing. GCSD Deputy James Carpeter, the investigating officer, reported no injuries.
A car crashed into a house last Tuesday in the Solsberry area, causing significant damage. The driver did not have a valid driver’s license and has never had a valid driver’s license. The car had a fictitious license plate. The driver showed signs of impairment, was taken to jail and has been charged with OVWI.
When Center-Jackson firefighters were dispatched to a fire in Owensburg around 1 a.m. this morning, they were advised as many as five people might be inside the home. But the residents were not home, all were safe, and no injuries were reported.

Information from Eastern Greene Schools as released by Center-Jackson Fire on Sunday morning: As of August 26th, 2019, Eastern Greene Schools will resume normal operations after several different agencies tested the air inside of the school. All of these tests came back negative for any harmful substances.
Eastern Greene Schools are closed today, Friday, August 23, and will remain closed until testing is completed and safety is insured following a incident at Eastern Greene Middle School Thursday.
UPDATE around 7:45 p.m. = Eastern Greene Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, August 23. Tests are underway to insure air quality. ………. Around 6:30 p.m., Thursday, August 22, Center-Jackson Fire released the following information: “There has been a hazardous material incident at the Eastern Greene Middle School. Some people have been transported to area hospitals for observation. There are no major injuries at this time. The state Fire Marshall’s office is on scene investigating, along with local fire departments. There is no gas leak in the school. As we have more information available we will update. Please disregard rumors on social media. Can follow Center-Jackson Fire Territory social media for updates on official information.”
Center-Jackson Fire responded early today to an RV on fire at I-69 and State Road 445. People were sleeping inside but all escaped and no injuries were reported.
It’s been a long night in Greene County. Tornado touchdowns, rotating clouds, strong winds and torrential rain starting on the evening of Saturday, June 15, and continuing through the night and into Sunday, June 16, have taken a toll on families and businesses, especially in eastern Greene County but also in the Freedom area in southern Owen County as well as northwestern Greene County. Power outages and downed trees blocking roads have also been reported in other areas of Greene County. The Center-Jackson Fire Territory, Linton Cycle Sales and Southern Indiana SxS have teamed up to sponsor their 1st Annual SxS and Jeep Ride on Sunday, August 26, with door prizes, drawings and a 50-50 raffle.
The cost of the ride will be a donation to support Greene County Sheriff’s K-9 Deputy Harvey Holt who is currently battling cancer.
