Center-Jackson responds to 1 a.m. fire in Owensburg

When Center-Jackson firefighters were dispatched to a fire in Owensburg around 1 a.m. this morning, they were advised as many as five people might be inside the home. But the residents were not home, all were safe, and no injuries were reported.

Center-Jackson Fire Territory (CJFT) was dispatched to a structure fire at 10890 East Main Street in Owensburg at 1:08 a.m. on Monday, December 30. Engine 14 arrived on the scene within five minutes of the dispatch.

According to a CJFT press release, at the time of dispatch, while enroute, dispatch advised firefighters of the possible entrapment of up to five people inside the home. Mutual aid was immediately requested for tankers and manpower.

CJFT firefighters entered the home and attempted a search of the residence but they were unable to locate anyone inside the home. It was later determined that the occupants were not home at the time of the fire and everyone was safe and accounted for.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by CJFT and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.

In addition to CJFT, personnel assisted on the scene from Taylor Fire Department, Beech Creek Township Fire Department, NSA Crane Fire Department, the Greene County Ambulance Service and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
