When Indiana State Police troopers investigating a man suspected of dealing methamphetamine located him near the Greene County Chapel yesterday afternoon, the man fled, starting a pursuit through Greene County then Owen County to the Monroe County line. When the suspect was apprehended in a field off McVille Road, he allegedly had approximately 130 grams of meth in his possession, and a lot of cash.

Chad C. Featherston, 45, of Bloomington, was taken into custody then arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail around 5:30 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, April 25.

ISP Det. Josh Allen along with Master Trooper John Patrick and Trooper Richard Klun and his K9 partner “Loki” had launched an investigation into methamphetamine dealing that focused on Featherston.

Featherston was wanted on two felony warrants, both issued out of Monroe County, one of which involved dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony.

When troopers located Featherston near the Greene County Chapel just off State Road 45 in far eastern Greene County, Trooper Klun activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle but Featherston fled.

Trooper Klun initiated the pursuit that traveled westbound on Chapel Road then traveled north on State Road 43 into Owen County.

According to information released by ISP Bloomington District, as Trooper Klun approached the Monroe County line, he was advised to disregard the pursuit.

Minutes later, Owen County Deputy Brandon Gasparovic and Owen County Sheriff Leonard “Sam” Hobbs were in the area and observed Featherston traveling westbound on State Road 46 in Owen County. These deputies then saw Featherston drive off into a field off McVille Road, ultimately getting his truck stuck.

OCSD Deputy Gasparovic was able to apprehend Featherston shortly after Featherston exited his truck.

According to the ISP, the officers located a 12-gauge pistol with the serial number removed, a large sum of US currency and approximately 130 grams of methamphetamine that were all in Featherston’s possession.

In addition to the Indiana State Police and Owen County Sheriff’s Department sheriff and deputies, personnel from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Monroe County Sheriff’s Department assisted in this incident.

Featherston was being held without bond in the Greene County Jail.

Today, on Friday, April 26, a criminal case was filed against Featherston in Greene County.

Featherston is facing preliminary charges of:

Dealing in methamphetamine in an amount of 10 or more grams, a Level 2 felony,
Possession of methamphetamine in an amount of 28 or more grams, a Level 3 felony,
Criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony,
Operating a motor vehicle after forfeiture of license for life, a Level 5 felony,
Resisting law enforcement – draws or uses a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony, and
Possession of an altered handgun, a Level 5 felony.
