Andrew “Andy” W. Ganster

Andrew “Andy” W. Ganster, aged 66 years, left our world Friday April 11th 2025 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Cardiac complications following a decade’s long struggle living with Polycystic Kidney Disease ultimately called him home to God.

Born in Elmhurst, Illinois in 1958 as the youngest of five siblings, he lived a storied life and experienced much. He was raised in the Catholic Church and his faith was a priority all his life. Andy graduated from York High School in 1976, where he first met his future wife and lifelong partner Terri. Andy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 17 and proudly served his country, traveling the world in the process. After his service as a Marine, he found gainful employment for the rest of his life as a civil servant of the United States Department of Defense. He worked in microelectronics, ensuring the safety and reliability of the critical systems United States service members rely on to defend our country. He was an educator, both professionally and personally.

Andy, with his wife Terri, called many places home throughout his life. He spent the last 40 years in Bloomfield, Indiana and this small town had his heart. It was in Bloomfield that he earned his most coveted title; Dad. His two children, Benjamin and Grace, were the center of his universe. He was proudly involved in any club, group or sport his children were interested in and wore many hats. If you were in need of a father, he would have gladly been yours as well. He was a surrogate father to innumerable people throughout his life, leading by example and a gentle sternness that commanded respect and attention. Spending time with Andy would make you want to be the best version of yourself possible. He was loved by many, and a friend to all.

Andy enjoyed time with his family and children above all else. He was a proud Grandpa to his Granddaughter Eisla. He was greatly looking forward to meeting his first Grandson Augustus, to be born just after Easter. He found purpose and pride through his work for the government, and was honored to serve until the day he died. Andy played bass and guitar, and loved watching live music. He also enjoyed golf, hockey, baseball, football and dining out with friends and family.

Andy is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Theresa “Terri” Ganster and their children Benjamin (Sarah) Ganster, Grace Ganster, and Carrie Anderson. Grandchildren Eisla and Augustus Ganster, siblings Gregory (Linda) Ganster, Rick (Ann) Ganster, Gary (Joy) Ganster, and Nancy Ganster. Andy leaves behind many loving Nieces and Nephews, and too many friends to list.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alvina Ganster. His parents-in-law William and Carol Scalfaro, nephews Bruce and Chuck Anderson, and many beloved family dogs.

Visitation for Andrew “Andy” W. Ganster will be May 2nd, 2025 4:00-8:00pm at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Indiana. A Catholic Mass will be held May 3rd, 2025 11:00am at Holy Name Catholic Church. Graveside service with military honors to follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield, Indiana.
