SR54 shut down for two hours after crash injured three adults and one child

State Road 54 in eastern Greene County was shut down for over two hours this afternoon after one child and three adults were injured in a crash involving two vehicles.

The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, on East State Road 54 near North Harv-Wright Road.

Sergeant Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff's Department, the investigating officer, reported that Cristan Elsmore, 35, Solsberry, was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango eastbound when she handed a drink to her daughter who was in the back seat of the vehicle. Elsmore said she ran off the south side of the roadway then overcorrected, causing her vehicle to go into the westbound lane.

Sheila Dougherty, 53, Linton, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox westbound on the highway and struck Elsmore’s Dodge Durango as it came into her lane.

Elsmore was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital by the Greene County Ambulance Service with an injury to her back.

A six-year-old juvenile, who was a passenger in Elsmore's vehicle, was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital by the Greene County Ambulance Service with a back injury.

Dougherty was transported to Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville by Air Evac 17 with a chest injury.

Carrie Marion, 51, a passenger in Dougherty’s vehicle, was transported to Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville by Air Evac 150 with hand and leg injuries.

No additional information regarding the status of those injured has been released.

Sergeant Allor said SR54 was shut down from 3:40 p.m. until 5:45 p.m.

In addition to the Greene County Sheriff's Department, personnel responded to assist on the scene from the Center-Jackson Fire Department, the Beech Creek Township Fire Department, the Greene County Ambulance Service, Air Evac 17 out of Paoli, Air Evac 150 out of Olney, Ill., Bill's Auto in Bloomfield and Bell’s Built in Solsberry.
