Solsberry woman arrested on warrant in dog bite case

A 37-year-old Solsberry woman was arrested Nov. 21 on a warrant for dog bite liability after two of her dogs bit a woman who was taking a walk.

The case, involving Sandra Lee Figg, first began in March 2023 when it was reported that two of her dogs bit a female in the area of Green Meadow Drive in Solsberry. She was arrested on Nov. 21 by Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Michael Stanley on a warrant that was issued on Nov. 17 after violating her probation.

The victim alleged she was walking around 12:15 p.m. on March 9 when two dogs exited a yard and surrounded her on the road. According to a probable cause affidavit written by Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Harvey Holt, the victim alleged the dogs were barking at her and bit her multiple times on both of her legs. She sustained several scrapes, skin tears, and punctures from the bites. The victim required medical attention.

Deputy Holt located the dogs in an area described to him by the victim. He pulled into a driveway but was unable to exit his vehicle. According to the probable cause affidavit, one of the dogs walked to his door and showed signs of aggression – showing its teeth and growling. The second dog ran to his vehicle and began barking. Deputy Holt honked his horn and spoke with someone from the residence who informed him the dogs always ran loose but were owned by a neighbor just south of that location.

As Deputy Holt arrived at the Figg residence and attempted to exit his vehicle, he was again unable due to the aggression one of the dogs showed.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Figg said the dogs always get out as they break through a fence. Deputy Holt informed her the fence needed to be fixed if they were continuously breaking free. While speaking with Figg, she alleged she was responsible for the dogs at the time of the incident but according to the probable cause affidavit, didn’t seem to believe they had bitten someone. Figg was informed the victim had to seek medical treatment for her injuries.

Figg was initially issued a summons to appear in Greene Superior Court on June 1. At that time, the court entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of Figg. On Aug. 23, a change of plea hearing was held and a guilty plea was accepted.

A petition to revoke probation was issued on Sept. 29. On Oct. 2, a criminal summons was issued to Figg commanding her to appear in Greene Superior Court on Nov. 16. The summons was returned as “return to sender, unclaimed, unable to forward” on Oct. 27. A warrant for her arrest was issued on Nov. 16.

Figg was arrested on a warrant for dog bite liability; injury to another person. Her bond was set at $5,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. She was released after posting $500.
