Jeffrey Dale Groomer, 30, Solsberry, was arrested by Deputy Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Wednesday, October 28. He was booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:06 p.m. on three warrants that were out for his arrest.

Groomer was in court in one case last Thursday and back in court earlier today for hearings in two other cases.

In one case, Groomer was convicted of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, on January 8. He was sentenced to one year in the county jail. He was given credit for 16 days already served and 333 days were suspended. He was on probation when two more criminal cases were filed against him. A petition to revoke his suspended sentence was filed by the Greene County Probation Department and a warrant issued for his arrest. When he appeared in court today in this case, his bond was set at $25,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

In the first of the two newer criminal cases filed against Groomer, he appeared in court last Thursday. The case was investigated by GCSD Deputy Davis Aerne into a domestic incident that occurred on July 29.

Deputy Aerne responded around 11:15 p.m. that night after a woman reported her boyfriend, Groomer, had just beat her up. She said an argument started when he asked for meat loaf and she told him to make it himself. Deputy Aerne reported the woman said Groomer started hitting her and threatened her with a kitchen knife. She said he took her phone and when she ran from the house to get help, he drug her back by her hair. When the altercation moved into a bathroom, she said he put her head into a toilet, banged her head off a wall, pushed her into a shower, hit her numerous times and choked her. Deputy Aerne noted the woman had multiple visible signs of injury and he also noted the lid to the toilet lid was broken.

A warrant was issued for his arrest. During his initial hearing last Thursday, he was charged with:

  • Domestic battery with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony,

  • Intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony,

  • Strangulation, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Interference with the reporting of a crime, a Class A misdemeanor.

In that case, his bond was set at $19,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

In the third case, another domestic incident that occurred on June 30 was investigated by Indiana State Police Trooper Julie Deel. When a case was filed against Groomer on misdemeanor charges, he was summoned to appear in court for an initial hearing on October 19. He didn’t show up so a warrant was issued.

When the initial hearing in this case was conducted earlier today, Groomer was charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor, and criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.

On the day of the altercation, Groomer was allegedly intoxicated and was with several other people including family. He was allegedly loud and disrespectful, demanding more alcohol and when they were in a vehicle taking him home, he reached over and jerked on the steering wheel causing the vehicle to swerve. Once they arrived at his residence, he allegedly hit another person then punched the vehicle creating a dent to the passenger door frame. Then he caused his fiancé to stumble while she was holding an infant. Then when the people left, he allegedly threw rocks at the vehicle causing nicks and scratches to the hood of the car.

As of late Monday, November 2, Groomer has not posted the bonds and remains in jail.
