Rebecca Grace Cardwell, 35, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday, November 7.

Cardwell was the driver of a brown 1986 Chevrolet on State Road 45 in eastern Greene County last Saturday around 10:15 p.m. When she passed by Deputy Allor, who was sitting stationary, he noticed she was driving with a cell phone in her hand raised up to face level.

A traffic stop was initiated. Cardwell said she was just looking at her phone to see the time. When asked for her driver’s license and registration, she didn’t have a driver’s license. A records check revealed her license was suspended and that she has a prior conviction for driving while suspended.

Deputy Allor reported that during the stop, when he told Cardwell he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, she allegedly said she knew and that she had marijuana in her purse.

GCSD Deputy Camron Frye also arrived to assist on the scene and after Cardwell consented to a search of the vehicle, Deputy Frye allegedly located green plant material, a metal marijuana grinder and a hand-rolled cigarette in the purse. In the vehicle, he located a container with a white powder residue that field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

Cardwell was booked into the Greene County Jail at 11:28 p.m.

When she appeared in Greene Superior Court earlier today, Tuesday, November 10, she was charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

  • Possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Driving while suspended – a knowing violation with a prior conviction within 10 years, a Class A misdemeanor.

Her bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.
