After a Morgantown man was stopped by an ISP Trooper in Greene County last Saturday night, he tested with a BAC of .163 and allegedly said he’d had over 15 beers plus some whiskey and vodka.

Aaron Mathew Woods, 21, Morgantown, was arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Clay McBride late Saturday night, August 29.

Trooper McBride was southbound on State Road 67 south of State Road 54 around 7:38 p.m. that Saturday when he saw a multicolored 2003 Honda Civic northbound that appeared to be speeding. Radar clocked the Honda at 67 mph in a 55 mph zone. Trooper McBride turned around and initiated a traffic stop.

When the trooper got to the driver’s side of the Honda, Woods was in the driver’s seat with a case of Busch beer on the floorboard behind the driver. The trooper detected the odor of alcohol and when asked, Woods allegedly said he had a couple of beers. Woods and a passenger were asked to exit for field sobriety testing. Woods passed one part, failed two other parts and a portable breath test indicated he was over the limit.

The passenger was also given a portable breath test then was cited for minor consumption of alcohol. She made a phone call and was released from the scene when a friend arrived to pick her up.

Woods was transported to the Linton Police Department for a certified chemical test and on the way, allegedly admitted he had 15-17 beers, some whiskey and some vodka that day.

Trooper McBride reported test results showed Woods had a BAC of .163. The legal limit is .08.

Woods was booked into the Greene County Jail at 9:39 p.m. His bond was set at $8,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $800 and was released the next day.

Woods is scheduled to be in court for an initial hearing on September 10. He is facing preliminary charges of:

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person with a prior within seven years, a Level 6 felony,

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction within seven years, a Level 6 felony,

• Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor, and

• Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony.
