Rural Worthington woman accused of domestic battery
/A rural Worthington woman was arrested after her boyfriend alleged she had choked him, pushed him then was loading a gun in a domestic incident in mid-August.
Kimberly L. Onuska, 55, Worthington, was arrested by Deputy Alan Jackson of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department very early Tuesday, August 18. She was booked into the Greene County Jail at 1:33 a.m. following an incident that started on Monday night, August 17.
Right before midnight, Deputy Jackson was dispatched to a residence on State Road 48 west of Worthington when a male caller told dispatch he had disarmed his girlfriend, later identified as Onuska, after he was pushed and choked by her. GCSD Deputy Davis Aerne and Jasonville Police Officer Dustin Cain also responded.
When they arrived they talked to the man outside a camper. A black Taurus 9 mm handgun and a black Stevens pump action shotgun were on the ground and Deputy Jackson secured them inside his patrol vehicle.
Onuska was inside the camper. She said the two of them had been drinking and he called someone to come and pick him up, so she took the firearms out of a cabinet to put them up in her bedroom. She alleged that while she was doing that, he tackled her. She said she did not threaten anyone or point a firearm but she did admit she pushed him back against the kitchen table.
The man described a verbal argument and said when he put a debit card down on the kitchen table then turned away, Onuska began choking him and pushed him against the table. He said he yelled at his son to call the police and he and his son started gathering their items to move out. He had gone outside then when he returned to gather some more items from a back bedroom, he heard a cabinet door open and saw Onuska holding a pistol and inserting a magazine. A struggle ensued and he got the gun and put it outside but when he returned, she had the shotgun out. He took that away and he and his son then stood outside until the officers arrived.
When officers talked to the man’s son, he described the argument but said he didn’t witness it. However, he said he heard a gun being loaded and he described the sound. Officers found a loose 9 mm round on the floor near the front door.
Onuska was handcuffed and transported. Her bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $100 and has been released.
Onuska retained a Marcelino Gustav Lopez, a defense attorney from Indianapolis, to represent her. When she appeared in Greene Superior Court on Monday, August 31, for an initial hearing, she was charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and was served with a no-contact order.
