Linton woman sentenced to 10 years for meth dealing
/A Linton woman, accused of dealing large quantities of methamphetamine in both Greene and Sullivan counties, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with four suspended, when she appeared in Greene Superior Court earlier this afternoon.
Barbara Elizabeth Guzman, 59, of rural Linton, has been convicted of dealing in methamphetamine in an amount of 10 or more grams, a Level 2 felony, after she plead guilty under the terms of a negotiated plea agreement.
On Thursday afternoon, March 11, she was sentenced to 10 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC) with four years suspended leaving her with six years to serve. She was given credit for 232 days already served.
She will be allowed good-time credit if eligible but under Indiana law, for this felony, she must serve a minimum of 75 percent of her time. Once prison time is served, she will serve the four suspended years on probation.
Guzman was represented by Greene County Deputy Public Defender Ellen Martin. The State was represented by Greene County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Keven McIntosh.
Guzman also has another case involving dealing in methamphetamine still pending against her in Sullivan County.
Guzman and her husband, Martin Guzman, also from Linton, were both arrested last July on warrants issued for their arrest as a result of an investigation by the Greene County Drug Task Force.
The Guzmans were allegedly transporting around four pounds of methamphetamine from out-of-state back to Greene County when they were stopped and taken into custody on US 41 in Sullivan County.
Cases against Martin Guzman are still pending in both Greene and Sullivan counties.
