Jasonville driver without a valid license suspected of hitting another vehicle in Bloomfield

When police located a Jasonville driver suspected of backing into another vehicle parked near the Greene County Courthouse last month, the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. He’s being summoned to appear in court in mid-April.

Billy G. Mitchell, 46, Jasonville, will be charged with driving while suspended – a knowing violation with a prior conviction within 10 years, a Class A misdemeanor.

Around 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, Bloomfield Town Marshal Ken Tharp responded to a report of an accident on Spring Street on the south side of the street from the Greene County Courthouse.

Police had received a report from a witness who said the driver of a black passenger car with a disabled license plate had backed into another passenger car then left the scene without leaving any information on the vehicle that was hit.

GCSD Deputy David Aerne also responded and the officers located the black vehicle in the parking lot of the Eastern-Greene Public Library. Then they saw the driver walking toward them and the car – he was identified as Billy Mitchell.

Mitchell admitted he had just left the parking space in front of the vehicle that was struck. When asked if he remembered hitting the car as he was leaving, he said he might have.

Mitchell was convicted in February of 2020 with driving while suspended and his license was still suspended.
