Linton woman arrested after allegedly punching two women inside Walmart

A Linton woman was arrested Sunday after police say she punched two women inside the Walmart store in Linton following a dispute.

Shannon Elaine Dicus, 39, of Linton, was arrested at 4:52 p.m. June 28. She faces two preliminary counts of battery, Class B misdemeanors.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers with the Linton Police Department were dispatched to Walmart at approximately 3:46 p.m. after receiving a report of women fighting near cash register No. 1.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the two alleged victims before locating Dicus in the parking lot. According to court documents, Dicus immediately told officers she was "not going anywhere" and knew she was going to jail for punching the two women.

After being taken into custody, Dicus told officers she confronted the women because she had been told several weeks earlier that they had been making fun of her mother, who she said was ill.

According to the affidavit, Dicus said she demanded an apology before punching both women.

The two women told police Dicus approached them, began calling them names, demanded an apology, and then struck them multiple times in the head and face. Officers observed visible injuries on both women and photographed the marks. The affidavit also notes that both women reported experiencing pain from the punches.

Following the incident, Walmart Asset Protection requested that all parties be trespassed from the property. Police advised Dicus she was prohibited from returning to the store and warned she could be arrested for criminal trespass if she did so. According to the affidavit, Dicus acknowledged the warning but refused to sign the trespass notice.
