Linton man dead after one-vehicle crash

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded Sept. 3 to the scene of a one-vehicle fatal accident near County Road 1250 West and County Road 500 North. 

At 3:02 a.m., Greene County Dispatch received an alert of a crash in the area from an Apple Watch. Officers responded to the area but did not locate any vehicles or a crash site. 

At 11:24 a.m., Dispatch was notified of a vehicle in the bottom of a wooded ravine. EMS, fire, and law enforcement personnel were dispatched to the scene of the crash site. 

A 2011 black Chevy Silverado driven by Steven T. Gimbut, 41, Linton, was traveling northbound on County Road 1250 West and for unknown reasons drove off County Road 1250 West on the north side of County Road 500 North. The vehicle struck a tree and traveled down an embankment before coming to rest on the driver’s side. Gimbut was pronounced dead at the scene.

Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Andrew Shelton is the investigating officer. He was assisted at the scene by the Wright Township Fire Department, Greene County Ambulance, and Poorboy’s Towing.
