Linton man arrested for possession of methamphetamine
/A 56-year-old Linton man was arrested on Dec. 29 for possession of methamphetamine after being pulled over for a non-working headlight.
Linton Police Department Officer Cade Herndon was patrolling State Road 54 in Linton when he noticed a vehicle with a malfunctioning headlight. Herndon initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as James K. Hoffeditz. According to Herndon’s probable cause affidavit, a Bureau of Motor Vehicles check revealed Hoffeditz had an outstanding warrant from Denver, Colorado.
Officers Davis Aerne and Mitchell Eberhardt arrived to assist. Eberhardt deployed his K-9 for a free-air sniff. The affidavit states that the K-9 alerted on the driver’s side of the vehicle. During a subsequent search, officers found a clear zip-style bag containing a crystal-like substance on the driver’s side floorboard. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Hoffeditz was taken to the Greene County Jail and is being held without bond.
Possession of methamphetamine is classified as a Level 6 felony.
