Linton man accused of threatening family member with knife

A verbal altercation escalated late last Thursday and a Linton man was arrested for allegedly threatening a family member with a knife.

Mitchell Dylan Douglas Piker

Mitchell Dylan Douglas Piker, 26, Linton, was arrested by Officer Zachary Goad of the Linton Police Department late last Thursday, November 4. Piker was booked into the Greene County Jail at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, November 5.

Around 9:57 p.m. last Thursday, Mitchell Piker called Linton Dispatch to report a domestic altercation at a residence on 6th Street SE in Linton. Piker said his father threw a cup at him but also said he was not injured.

When Officer Goad responded, Piker said he and his father had a disagreement over whether another family member should be staying at their residence and a verbal argument escalated when his father threw cups at him, one of which contained “pop.” The officer did not see any wetness on Piker’s shirt.

According to Officer Goad, the father said he didn’t throw the cup in Piker’s direction and a witness confirmed that the father had thrown a cup at a wall. Officer Goad offered to transport Piker to a different location but Piker said he had nowhere to go.

After the officer left, Linton Dispatch got another call from the residence at 11:06 p.m. The father reported Piker had gone after the family member with a knife and threatened to kill him. He said Piker no longer had the knife and was sitting on a couch.

When Officer Goad returned, Piker was still sitting in the living room. Piker said he did not pick up a knife and had not been in the kitchen where the incident allegedly occurred.

But the father and the family member both described an altercation in the kitchen with Piker screaming and cussing and punching a table then picking up a knife, saying he would just kill the family member, before he slammed the knife down and went into the living room.

Piker was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail.

When Piker appeared in Greene Circuit Court this afternoon, Monday, November 8, for his initial hearing, a public defender was appointed to represent him and he was charged with intimidation – defendant draws or uses a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony.

Piker’s bond has been set at $15,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of late Monday night, he has not posted bond and is still in custody.
