Chaise Hunter Smith, 19, Linton, was arrested by Officer Bobby Pierce of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early last Thursday, July 1, following an incident late Wednesday, June 30.

Officer Pierce reported that when a teal 1995 Ford Bronco with no license plate drove through the intersection of 8th Street NE and State Road 54 late last Wednesday, the driver did not slow down or even attempt to brake before crossing the highway. A traffic stop was initiated.

Chaise Smith was the driver, with a suspended license. He had one passenger but they didn’t have a valid driver’s license and the vehicle ended up getting towed.

Smith allegedly agreed to a search of his vehicle and said he might have marijuana in the vehicle.

When Officer Pierce and GCSD Deputy William C. Walker searched, they reported finding a plastic bag with a green plant material that appeared to be marijuana, a smoking device with a burnt plant material and the odor of marijuana, two more smoking devices, a digital scale, two grinders and rolling papers.

Smith allegedly admitted all the items belonged to him.

Smith was arrested and at 12:33 a.m. on Thursday, he was booked into the Greene County Jail with bond set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $100 and was released later the same day.

He’s now scheduled to be in court for his initial hearing on July 12. He’s facing charges of possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
