Intimidation with a pellet gun leads to criminal charge

A 53-year-old Jasonville man has been summoned to appear in Greene Superior Court following a mid-May incident involving a pellet gun.

John Irons has been accused of shooting a pellet gun at a man as he walked past his Capital Street residence in Jasonville May 16.

The victim said Irons' wife shouted that he (the victim) was walking by the residence. According to a probable cause affidavit written by Officer Brian Pilant of the Jasonville Police Department, the victim said Irons came out of the residence with a pellet gun and shot it at him as he was walking down the street.

A witness asked the victim if Irons hit him in the face with the gun, which the victim said he didn’t know. The witness did point out a hole in the victim’s shirt sleeve, which appeared to be from the pellet gun.

While interviewing the witness, he said the gun appeared to be an old wooden one about three feet long. Officer Pilant took photos of the hole in the victim’s sleeve as well as a mark on his upper shoulder.

When Officer Pilant arrived at Irons residence, his wife was backing out of the driveway and began honking and verbalizing that the police were there. As Pilant approached the backyard of the residence, Irons came around the corner and told him if he was there about the incident it was all a lie. Pilant informed Irons a complaint had been filed against him and asked him to accompany him to the police station for an interview. Irons declined and told Pilant to get off his property.

A case was filed against him on July 1 with an official summons to appear sent via certified mail on July 5. Irons will be charged with intimidation, a Class A Misdemeanor, when he is set to appear in court for an initial hearing on Aug. 22.
