Hit and run driver located and arrested

A driver allegedly involved in a hit and run crash in Linton in late October was apprehended later the same day in Clay County. At the time of his arrest, he denied hitting another vehicle but when he went to court last week, he entered into a verbal plea agreement.

Dylan Michael Hendricks

Dylan Michael Hendricks, 30, Bicknell, was arrested by Officer Alan Jackson of the Linton Police Department early Friday, October 22, after an incident that happened on Thursday, October 21.

Hendricks is accused of leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, a Class B misdemeanor.

Around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, Officer Jackson was dispatched to a location in Camelot Court in Linton for a hit and run accident. When he arrived on the scene, Greene County Rescue was assisting a woman who was transported to the hospital. Before transport, she said she came home after getting groceries and parked next to a red pickup truck. She said a man, later identified as Dylan Hendricks, got out of the passenger seat of the truck, walked around and got in the driver’s seat. She said when the truck pulled out to leave, it hit her vehicle, damaging the rear bumper and fender on the passenger side.

It turned out another man had driven the truck to Camelot Court, had parked and had gone into an apartment to pick up some clothes. While he was out of the vehicle, passenger Hendricks switched seats and drove away. So there were a couple of people on the scene who knew Hendricks and provided his name and phone number to the officer who was unable to make contact with Hendricks.

By 10:45 p.m. approximately, the truck was located. Officer Jackson was notified by Officer Skylar Scott of the Jasonville Police Department that he was assisting the Clay County Sheriff’s Department in the case of a stolen red pickup truck – a red Dodge Ram 1500, and they believed the vehicle may have been the one involved in the hit and run.

When Officer Jackson arrived at a location in Clay County where the truck was located, he was able to talk to Dylan Hendricks who allegedly admitted being at Camelot Court and driving away in the truck but he denied hitting another vehicle.

Hendricks was transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 12:38 a.m. Friday, October 22. His bond was set at $500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $50 and was released from jail later the same day.

During the initial hearing in Greene Superior Court last Thursday, the court was advised a verbal plea agreement had been reached and a change of plea hearing was scheduled for December 16.
